Important! Put “Festival of the Trees” in the subject line of your email
The UN-declared International Year of Forests 2011 is “Celebrating Forests for People,” and the Festival of the Trees issue 55 is your opportunity to kick off 2011 with sustainable resolutions.
According to their website, “The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests.” Our returning host Jasmine of the UK-based Nature’s Whispers blog invites all of us to examine our relationships with forests and share something for the New Year:
What tree-related New Year’s resolutions would you like to share? What plans do you have to honor the International Year of Forests 2011? Will you plant a tree, or perhaps help to preserve or restore a habitat? If so, what is the motivation, memory, goal, or other force which drives your interactions with trees and forests?
Share your thoughts on conservation and sustainability, agriculture and silviculture, wood and non-wood forest products, and the ways both obvious and subtle that trees and forests are used to sustain human life on earth. Consider the timber in your home, the paper in your lavatory, the fruit in your dish, the fire in your stove, the grove in your neighborhood, and the many people who live and work in the lee of the trees.
Now, go forth, blog trees for 2011, and send us the links!
