This July the Festival of the Trees takes us to the center of the Great Lakes basin, where Yvonne Osborne of The Organic Writer blog likes to dream, write, and garden. To help focus our inspiration, Yvonne invites us to share a glimpse of “our favorite trees, whether from a childhood memory (sad or joyful) or the one growing outside our window, with participants using art in any form to relate their story — haiku, photography, flash story, sculpture, painting, etc.” — however the tree spirits move us. This theme is the perfect excuse for us all to take a few moments to reflect on those trees whose branches still beckon us from seasons past, of perhaps those trees who offer their shade for our lunch hour, nod in the passing bus exhaust, stand as firm reminders of forests since cut and renewed, or drop their leaves on our sidewalks each autumn. Surprise us!
